Wedding
Shower Games, Suggestions for Making Any Shower More Fun
Wedding shower games can spice up your prenuptial festivity. Games
are a great ice-breaking strategy when a number of the invited guests
are strangers. They can be conservative or not. When planning on
the type of game or games to use give some consideration to the
bride's tastes and to the age of the people who will be attending.
If only adults will be present it might give the hostess a chance
to choose something a bit more risque.
You can find wedding shower game ideas in wedding planning books
as well as on the Internet. If you choose to use the internet it
is a good idea to search for games not only on wedding related sites
but on party sites. These websites often have games that can be
adapted for the ocassion. It is also possible to find sites that
sell games produced for wedding showers.
Below is a great shower games package I found on the Internet.
It is really a time saver because all the games print right from
your computer. I highly recommend it.
Wedding shower games - nine
to choose from
Don't feel limited by suggestions for a particular game idea. If
you like an idea you may be able to make it your own by changing
some of the rules.
-
My Husband's Kiss: This game works if both males and females
are present at the wedding shower. The bride-to-be is blindfolded
so that she will have to discern the difference of kisses given
to her using only her other senses. She then sits or stands
someplace that is comfortable and where she can be kissed on
the cheek by the male guests who opt to play. To spice things
up a bit some of the female guests may choose to play. Even
better, keep the fact that women will be involved a secret from
the bride. Assemble the other players. Explain all the other
rules to the bride and let the games begin. The players will
be given a number. Each player will approach the bride and kiss
her cheek. The individuals kissing the bride-to-be and those
who opted not to play should be careful not to give away any
clues to the bride. The numbers of the players are indicated
as they kiss the bride. When all players have kissed the bride,
her blindfold may be removed and she has to guess which kiss
belonged to her husband-to-be. The individual who she guesses
can win the prize. The prize can be as simple as a jar or bag
of chocolate kisses. You can be creative.
-
How well do you know the bride and groom?: This is another
game that can work well at mixed showers. In this wedding shower
game people can get into teams of twos or more if you're having
a large shower. Hand each team a card to wave, this will act
as their buzzer. Each team will be asked questions about the
bride and her groom. Assign someone to keep track of the scores.
The team that answers the most questions about the bride and
groom are said to know the most about the couple and given a
prize. You can also play this game by preprinting the questions
and handing them out to the teams and tallying the scores to
find the winner. If there's a tie have the bride throw out a
tie-breaking question.
-
Wedding Song / Poetry Writing Game: Make up pre-printed cards
with sexy or wedding related words. As your guests arrive have
them draw a number of these cards from a deck. You may want
to limit the number of cards to between two and four. During
the shower have the guests make up a poem or song. When everyone
has a poem or song have them recite or sing it. The person who
elicits the most laughter, or giggles or votes wins the prize.
This is one of those wedding shower games that is great for
mixed showers since everyone can participate. Be certain that
you choose words that are appropriate for the individuals who
are attending.
-
Picture Guessing Game: The shower hostess can borrow pictures
of the bride and her groom before the party. Have the bride
indicate what the ocassion was when the picture was taken and
where. Set the pictures out so that they are easily accessible
to guests or pass them to each guest seated in a circle. The
guests have approximately 30 seconds each to look at the pictures
before making their guesses about when and where the picture
was taken. The person with the most correct guesses wins. Tip:
this game will work best if the guests know the bride and groom
well.
-
Pocket Book Treasure Hunt: This will be fun if the guests
are all female. The hostess or someone else who volunteers can
be the caller. The caller will call out a number of things that
can be found in a woman's purse. The women present will search
for these items in their pocketbook. The person who finds each
item first will receive a prize. You can give away small trinkets
to each person who makes the quickest find after each call or
you can keep track of the person who found the most items in
their purse then give the prize to that person.
-
Bridal Bingo: You can have wedding bingo cards that you made
up and printed at a print shop. These types of cards can also
be found at online stores that make and sell games for bridal
showers. Each person gets a card which has words pertaining
to the bride, a wedding, the groom or anything else you can
think of that pertains to weddings. All the cards should have
the same theme. For example, they should all be related to words
that describe the bride. This will make it possible for all
the players to have a chance of getting a BINGO! The rules are
the same as regular bingo so that the person who finds a word
or number of words first is the winner.
-
Props: The guests are placed in teams, the total number of
people on a team will depend on the total number of guests.
Each team is given some props. For example, you can give them
a couple rolls of toilet paper or paper towels, some safety
pins, tape, magazine pictures and anything else that you can
find in your home. The teams' challenge will be to plan a wedding,
the main attraction being a wedding dress. The team with the
best design wins the game and the prize.
-
Forbidden Words: While planning the wedding shower think of
a couple of words whose mention will be forbidden during the
party. When guests arrive inform them that the words you have
chosen are forbidden. Give each guest a card, a gift, a clothes
pin, a flower or anything they can hold onto but that can be
transferred to other guests. Anyone who mentions the forbidden
words must hand over their item to the guest who heard them
say the words. This game can be lots of fun especially if the
words chosen include the brides name. The person holding the
most items after a designated period of time wins a prize.
-
Guess the Number: To play this game fill a medium or larger
jar with small trinkets or candy. You can make this game a little
racier if only adults will be present by using different kinds
of condoms. Have each person present try to guess the number
of items in the jar. The person whose guess is closest to the
actual number will win the jar to take home.
This list of wedding shower games is not exhaustive. There are
many other games that can make the hours of the bridal shower a
fun time. Use the games here, you can also make modifications to
the ideas to suit the bride's taste. Also don't forget that everyone
should have fun playing the games so be sure the adjustments and
the games chosen will not offend guests.
