Wedding place cards are more than seating charts
Wedding place cards are the traditional way of showing your
reception and wedding guests exactly where they will be sitting
during the dinner and reception portions of your festivities. Traditionally,
wedding place cards are simple, elegant markers, often written in
calligraphy on plain white or cream colored tent cards. However,
many modern brides are seeing wedding place cards in a whole new
light and are using wedding place cards as ways of lending to the
theme of their wedding and reception… or even completely breaking
away from that theme. Why not see your wedding place cards in much
the same way and use them as a means to help your guests enjoy their
time at your wedding even more?
Place cards are only used in sit-down reception situations, so
if you will be having a stand-up or cocktails style reception chances
are you won’t even have to worry about wedding place cards at all.
If you will be using wedding place cards, a good place to start
is at a stationery store. Consultants there can show you examples
of a wide variety of wedding place cards, but most will be of the
more traditional variety. If you love that tradition, then by all
means have the standard wedding place cards! It’s your wedding and
your decision. If you would like to go a little bit outside the
box, then start thinking about your place cards in a more creative
way.
Place cards can help encourage the theme of your wedding. For instance,
if you will be married in a seaside locale and are having something
of an ocean theme to your wedding, your wedding place cards could
reference different oceans or beaches. One table could be Atlantic
City, another Hawaii, another Rehoboth, and so on, then your guests
can find out which beach they will be attending by you writing the
beach on their wedding place cards. For a little more fun, use the
place cards as a raffle for the centerpieces. Make a small mark
on one of the wedding place cards at each table, and whoever finds
the mark gets the centerpiece! See, wedding place cards don’t just
have to be a roadmap to your reception!
