Invitations Wording
Sample Wedding Invitations Wording you could use
The wording of your wedding invitations is your first chance to
make an impression on your potential guests. Well the card makes
the first impression even if it's not one of those Carlson Craft
invitations. Chances are they'll read it again and agian. After
all, it's a wedding and most people are happy to be invited to share
this moment.
There are two basic ways of wording wedding invitations: traditional
and contemporary.
Traditional wedding invitations wording and structure
The general layout would look something like this:
Parents of bride
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
daughter's name
to
Name of Groom
Day and Date
Time of Ceremony
Location of Ceremony
If you would like to include information about your reception on
the same invitation card then you would also add the following to
the above.
reception to follow
Location of Reception
Request for a response to the invite.
So your family isn't as traditional as others, what do you do then?
There are ways to alter traditional invitations to reflect special
situation such as parental divorces, remarriages, and cohosting
by different sets of parents.
Here is an example of a traditional wedding invitation for regular
situations:
Mr. and Mrs. John Brown
requests the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
Mary Brown
to
Mr. Paul Smith
Sunday, the twentieth of November
Two thousand and one
at three thirty
Sixty six Clive Ave
Manhattan, New York
Reception
immediately following the ceremony
Pleasure Cove Restaurant
There are different ways to request a reply from your guests. The
most commonly used is R.S.V.P. You may also use "The favor
of a reply is requested" or "Please respond" or "Please
R.S.V.P.".
A traditional wedding invitation may look something like the following
for a non-traditional family. In this case the bride's parents are
divorced and have remarried:
Mr. and Mrs. John Brown
and
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dennis
requests the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
Mary Brown
to
Mr. Paul Smith
Friday, the tenth of May
Nineteen hundred and ninety six
at five o'clock
Clarkson Avenue Baptist Church
Queens, New York
Reception
immediately following the ceremony
Marriott Hotel
For those who are less traditional a more contemporary wedding
invitation wording might suffice. Here is an example for a wedding
hosted by the parents of the bride:
William and Joycelyn Smith
invite you to join us
as we joyously celebrate the union
of our daughter Jane to Timothy Taylor
at six o'clock
Saturday, the sixteenth of June
Clarkson Avenue Baptist Church
Queens, New York
These are just a few suggestions for how your wedding invitations
could be worded. If you choose a contemporary invitation you may
have more freedom to change the wording to express your feelings
about the occasion.
