Wedding gift etiquette doesn’t have to dictate your whole gift
Wedding gift etiquette definitely plays a big role in most people’s
gift selections, but it does not have to be the center of the gift
giving process. In fact, it does not have to be even close to center,
especially if you follow one of the primary rules people have established
for gift giving. We’ll get to that in a bit, but just realize that
wedding gift etiquette does not necessarily need to dictate exactly
what you give the couple.
Gift etiquette is really meant as a guide to your gifts, but common
sense is almost as good of a guide as any etiquette book. After
all, you certainly realize that giving raunchy or gag gifts at the
wedding is not good etiquette, and you don’t need a book to tell
you that. Where people typically worry about wedding gift etiquette
is with unique wedding gifts. One of the commonly used rules of
wedding gifts is to stick to the registry to make sure the bride
and groom get exactly what they need, so that can assist with the
etiquette.
Gift etiquette does not have to revolve around a prefab list of
gifts, however. If you want to give unique wedding gifts, give them!
The etiquette will follow. Most people realize what is and is not
an acceptable gift for a wedding, so just follow those internal
guidelines and you’ll be fine. Don’t worry so much about wedding
gift etiquette and you will stumble upon the perfect gift sooner
or later.
