Wedding chairs aren't pretty if they aren't practical

Wedding chairs may seem like such a mundane thing, but in fact they can become one of the most important elements of your reception. If you have a wonderful reception but uncomfortable wedding chairs, all of your guests may go home and comment, “Well, that was a nice wedding, but they certainly had some horrible chairs. What a shame.” Do you want your guests to remember your chairs after your reception? Of course not! You want them to remember the great time they had, how beautiful it was, and the wonderful food, not your chairs. To avoid that, we have compiled a few quick tips for making sure your wedding chairs are as elegant and comfortable as possible.

Chairs from many reception venues are simply the chairs the hotel or ballroom uses for other events. To make them more specifically wedding chairs, the venue will often cover the chairs in beautiful fabric and ribbons. Ask your reception planner to see an example of a wedding chair, then do a test sit. You read that right – sit down in that wedding chair and check it out! If the wedding chairs do not seem like they will be very comfy for your guests, say so. Ask what the venue can do to make the chairs cushier for your celebration, as often ballrooms will offer additional padding or pillows under the cover of the wedding chairs to help with the discomfort.

Chairs, of course, should be gorgeous. They should match the color scheme of your wedding itself, so do not cover your wedding chairs in white silk if you are having an outdoor wedding with colors of blue and green. Instead, try to find wedding chairs in a wicker style with a nice pad that matches your reception. Have a little vision when it comes to your wedding chairs… it is amazing what a difference they make!
