Wedding
Butterflies : An Alternative to the Love Doves
You would like to add a bit of drama to your wedding and enchant
everyone by releasing wedding butterflies at your wedding celebration.
You’ve already pictured the delightful show when you surprise your
guest with the breath taking show of color. There is delighted laughter
and maybe even a little cheering as your wedding ceremony ends in
a concert of fluttering wings. Great idea, but where will you find
these creatures?
Wedding Butterflies : places
to purchase them
Wedding butterflies are reared by a number of farms across the
United States and Canada. These farms offer them in different packages
at varying prices. Many of these farms can be located via the Internet
where they have websites. I have listed 2 of them below.
1. Wedding

This is the one that I recommend because of their excellent service.
2. Swallow
tail farm
Some people like the idea of releasing butterflies but they don't
want to cause harm to the little creatures. Relax, not to worry,
most of the farms that rear your wedding butterflies have been doing
so for years. They ship the butterflies in special packages that
keep them safe while they are being transported and while they want
to regain their freedom. They also send along instructions on how
to care for the butterflies when they arrive.
What Kind of Butterflies Can
I Expect in a Package of Wedding Butterflies?
The most popular type of butterflies sold for festive release is
the Monarch butterfly. Some farms have packages called "mixed
bouquets". These will contain not only Monarchs but other types
of butterflies, most often the painted lady butterfly. However,
some companies do add other kinds of butterflies to a "mixed
bouquet".
Skeptics frown on "mixed bouquets" because they believe
these are of a lower quality than the pure bouquet which has only
Monarchs. Monarch butterflies are larger than the painted lady.
Their wingspan is approximately 4 inches compared to the 2 to 2.5
inches of the Painted Lady. They are deemed to be friendlier and
less likely to need coaxing to leave the release container.
Wedding Butterflies : when
should I release them?
It is suggested that butterfly release happen before dark. The
release can be an alternative to tossing rice, bird seed or confetti
after the wedding. They are great if you're looking for a colorful
and fun substitution for doves since you can place them on flower
bouquets and people for photography if desired.
When choosing wedding butterflies be sure that you have gotten
in writing the type of butterflies and when you can expect them
to arrive. Be sure to follow the instructions given to you so that
the butterflies will be handled with care and your release will
be as perfect as you envision it.
