Wedding attire should be comfortable beyond anything else

Wedding attire may seem like an easy subject to cover when it comes to wedding planning, but many people actually misunderstand it. Wedding attire is not necessarily just a gown and tux and some nice shoes. In fact, you could go completely wrong by wearing a gown and tux and nice shoes as wedding attire in some situations! Confused? Don’t be. That’s the problem – people think too hard about wedding attire and end up making the wrong choices.

Wedding attire for both bride and groom should be about comfort and keeping with the wedding theme. If you are having a seaside wedding with your guests in casual attire, you could go very wrong if you have a full-blown wedding gown and tuxes for your attendants as the wedding attire. Instead, look to wedding attire to complement your theme. Why not have a light, airy white sundress? Or even a white swimsuit with a little white wraparound skirt and flowers in your hair? For the groom, try white linen short-sleeve suits with bare feet and a simple flower in the pocket. Wedding attire should coordinate, and you and your guests will feel a little odd if they are at one end of the wedding attire spectrum and you’re at the other.

Wedding attire for guests can be tricky sometimes, especially in such situations. If you will be attending a wedding – or are a parent at a wedding – look to the bride and groom for cues on how to dress. Does the invitation include wedding attire hints like “casual reception to follow?” Is it being held at a country club? If the latter, you will want to dress far more formally than if the former. Wedding attire does not have to be a stressful topic, just look for hints wherever possible and, when in doubt, ask!
