A maid of honor speech doesn’t have to play second fiddle
The maid of honor speech is often considered as playing second
chair to the best man’s speech, if only because the best man is
typically allowed a more raucous and funny speech than the maid
of honor speech traditionally takes form. That definitely does not
have to be the case with your speech! If you are the type to take
charge of a room, then use this speech to do so.
The key to the speech is to be yourself. This seems like common
sense, particularly since the father of the bride speech is all
about raising your own little girl into a woman, but the maid of
honor speech sometimes trips people up in this respect. It is easier
during the speech to be demure and more quiet, but for someone who
is loud and funny, that type of speech just seems unnatural.
Your speech has every right to be as funny as the best man’s while
being almost as sentimental as the father of the bride speech. Think
of some great memory you have with your friend, then use that as
your basis for the speech. Your speech doesn’t have to be some earth-shaking
proclamation, it just has to be you.
