Engagement party invitations are more fun than their wedding counterpart
Engagement party invitations are a little bit like engagement gifts
in that they are a precursor to the wedding itself and carry many
of the same themes as the wedding invitations will, but the fun
thing about the engagement party is that you will have planned little
to nothing of the wedding yet. Your engagement celebration does
not have to resemble your wedding in any way, or it can closely
mirror exactly what you think your wedding ceremony and reception
will be. That’s the fun of it! With an engagement party, everything
from the engagement party invitations is wide open for your every
whim and fantasy.
Engagement invitations still have a few rules about etiquette that
should be followed, of course, but for the most part you can make
your invites just about anything you want. If someone is having
the party for you and you love wine and spirits, why not ask to
have a wine tasting party to celebrate your engagement? Then your
engagement party invitations could take the form of coasters for
a more enduring invite that people will love. Maybe you would rather
call more attention to the fact that it is a precursor to the wedding
and make the engagement party invitations closely resemble wedding
invitations. That’s the great thing, you can do either or neither
because the engagement celebration is so much more open than the
wedding itself.
Engagement invitations do have some specific wording you can use
to indicate to people what it is they can expect from the celebration.
If your friend is holding the party for you, be certain to include
his/her/their name at the outset, using text like “John Smith invites
you to celebrate the engagement of…” One of the better ideas for
engagement invitations is to indicate some sort of theme, which
can help people select engagement gifts for you. Just remember,
they’re your invites, so make them what you want!
